Which sources do the answer engines cite this week?

Every Monday Promvia asks the same 40 buyer questions to seven answer engines and records every source each answer cites. This page publishes the result: the domains that get cited, how that splits by source type, which shapes of question pull in directories, and what moved since last week. The prompt list is at the bottom so anyone can reproduce it.

This week AI Overviews cited youtube.com in 25 of 40 questions.

Week 2026-W37, measured 7 September 2026. One sample per engine per question; a difference of one or two questions is noise, not a trend.

Directory = review, comparison and listing sites (G2, Capterra, AlternativeTo, TripAdvisor, idealo…). Media = press and review publications (Forbes, PCMag, RTINGS, Consumer Reports…). Other = retailers, vendors’ own sites and everything no rule matched.

Each cell: questions of that shape whose answer cited at least one review directory, out of the questions that shape got answered. Compare the rows — the table is the finding, not a rule.

Do AI answers cite review directories like G2, Capterra or TripAdvisor?

How is the AI Source Index measured?

Forty buyer questions across eight categories are put once to each of seven answer engines every Monday through their search-grounded APIs or a SERP capture; every URL an answer cites is stored, and a domain counts once per question per engine. The prompt list is published on the page, so anyone can reproduce the run.

Method

Forty buyer questions, eight categories, four question shapes, English, no market override. Each Monday every question is put once to each of the seven engines Promvia tracks, using the same providers and prompts customers get. Every URL an answer cites is stored; a domain counts once per question per engine. Bing is classic search results, not an AI answer, and is reported separately. The panel is versioned: a prompt is never edited, only replaced under a new version.
